Free List Of Negative Calorie Foods

You will find a free list of “negative” calorie foods below, but first let's consider what this means.

There is no such thing as a “negative” calorie - a calorie is a unit of heat and it cannot be negative.

However, when people talk about “negative” calorie foods, they're referring to foods whose calorie level is low enough that it takes more energy to eat and digest it than the food contains.

For example, if you consider water to be a food, then cold water is certainly a negative calorie food. It contains no calories at all and the body has to expend energy to bring it up to blood temperature. So every time we drink a glass of cold water we burn up a couple of calories. But there are very few foods like this.

Most foods that are on the list do not really use more calories than they add, or if they do the effect is negligible. Celery for example, does not give us enough calories to cover. So that is why people call it a negative calorie food.

Negative calorie foods are most attractive to anorexics. A negative calorie diet would obviously result in starvation in the long term and nutritional deficiencies can occur over time.  Once the body has lost excess fat, the calories burnt then come from muscle mass.  With this, the result is debility and wasting.

A more healthy way to use a negative calorie diet is as a form of fasting or detox.

It is something you can do for one to three days right after the Christmas season or another time when you have been eating an over-rich diet. Provided you are otherwise healthy it can be a great way to clean out the system. However it is still best to take medical advice before attempting this.

If you decide to use a negative calorie detox, keep the following points in mind:

1. It is never a good idea to eat huge quantities of one type of food, especially fruits. A lot of foods contain substances that can be damaging if consumed to excess. For example, the acid in grapefruit and pineapple can damage your stomach lining. Other foods put an excessive burden on the liver or may cause diarrhea. So try to use all the different foods in small quantities.

2. Do not spend all day just eating to be eating. You will become bloated and ‘heavy’.  You’d probably make yourself feel sick. If you are only doing this for a couple days, you should not feel too hungry. Plan four or five salad meals each day, and let your digestion rest at other times.

3. You will feel more satisfied if you eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly. You will also use more calories that way. So if the foods can be eaten raw, that will be more effective than cooking them. Foods like carrots and beets will also be more satisfying if you eat them grated.

4. Schedule time when you do not have any important commitments. As with fasting or any kind of detox, you may suffer some uncomfortable symptoms including headaches, tiredness, depression and irritability. If these become severe, stop the diet and see a doctor; otherwise, tough it out.

5. When you end the detox, plan a gradual return to normal eating.

If all the above points are checked and passed, let's move on to the list of foods.

Master Cleanse: The Lemon Detox 'Diet'

The lemon detox diet, or what is commonly known as the master cleanse, is a form of a detoxification regimen. Several Hollywood stars have tried and tested its efficiency, and this diet did not leave them disappointed. This diet has given hope to millions of people all over the world who want to lose weight and be healthier. But what are there to know about this master cleanse? Is this therapy really beneficial and safe to try?

The lemon detox diet is believed to be very safe because only natural products are used. The process would include the purification of the entire body as the accumulated toxins are flushed out from the system. As the body cleanses itself, its weight will begin to normalize.

Everyone should try to detoxify their bodies, at least twice a year. People who think that they are healthy enough should also try this kind of diet. You should know that toxins build up in our body because of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and even the food we eat. Even the emotional and physical stresses that we experience play a role in the accumulation of toxins. Thus, because of this, the body should be given a time to get rid of the harmful compounds that may endanger our health. This is where the detox diet should enter.

Healthy diet, supplemented by herbs and vitamins should be able to assist in the detoxification of our system. As you cleanse our body, you should stay away from substances that may have unfavorable effects to your body and health. Instead of turning to these unhealthy foods, you should try to eat those organically and naturally grown, like lemons, carrots and the likes that motivate the filtration process of the liver. This is why the lemon detox diet is a sure hit in attaining a healthier and better quality of life.

You should understand that the lemon detox diet is a great way to get rid of unwanted toxins, and it is not for weight loss. This is simply a cleanse.  You do lose weight … but that is just a consequence because when you are doing a master cleanse, you eliminate a lot of undigested waste that has accumulated in your system.

Thus, to be clear, you should remember that the primary goal of a lemon detox diet is to let your digestive system take a break, so that your body would have the opportunity to retune itself while you stay energetic at the same time.

If your goal is to lose weight rather than to eliminate toxins from your body, you will find yourself gaining weight right after your detox … because you haven’t changed your eating habits.   As you go back to your regular eating habit, your body will go back to responding as it always has.

In summary, you should consider the lemon detox diet as a detoxification regimen for your body at least twice a year. Purging toxins and unhealthy chemicals from your body should be your ultimate goal and not losing weight. Though losing weight is a byproduct of this ‘diet’, it should not be your main purpose.

If you really want to lose weight, you should try to exercise regularly and eat a balanced healthy meal.

Learning the Basics of Detoxing

There are a lot of ways on how to live a healthier life and at the same time shed off those unwanted body fats. One technique that is fast gaining popularity is to detox. What is there to know about this in particular? Perhaps some of you may already have an idea of what to expect out of this; but for those who want to know a little more about this, then you may want to explore this article.

Upon hearing the word detoxification, perhaps the primary thought that may appear in your mind is the procedure used for therapy of a person who has a certain kind of addiction. But this word may also mean as some kind of a "elimination" wherein the body is cleansed of dietary toxins to improve one’s health.

This kind of action may be done in a lot of ways, but in general, its aim is to reduce the ingestion of chemicals that may not be helpful for the body. This may be obtained by eating foods that are rich in fiber, so that toxins can be easily eliminated by frequent bowel movement.

Reasons to Go on a Detox Diet:

There are people who undergo a weight loss program wherein diet lacks some nutrients which aid or assist in detoxifying chemicals in our body.

(See: Jennifer Jolan's Big Book of Diets: All You Need to Know about 50 of the World's Most Popular Diets - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!)

As a result of this, chemicals may build-up in the body which is often called as the “body burden.” This accumulation of chemicals is believed to be responsible of some illnesses including impairment of immune system and inefficiency of the body’s metabolism.

Aside from the fact that this diet may prevent serious illnesses, its effects are other reasons why people should try this diet. Most of the individuals who have tried this diet have testified that they have improved energy and digestion. Their bowel movement is frequent and regular, which makes them less irritable. They also opined that their concentration have increased after undergoing this kind of diet. And, as an added feature, their skins have become clearer and more radiant than before.

The Possible Side Effects:

In every detoxification, there is a tendency of the occurrence of withdrawal symptoms. For instance, if a person cuts down his intake of caffeine, he may experience headache during the first few days of his withdrawal. Thus, practitioners recommend that instead of a sudden withdrawal they should try to slowly decrease their caffeine intake; as they say, slowly but surely.

Diarrhea may also be a drawback, and if it worsens, it may even lead to dehydration. However, constipation may also occur, especially if the person has consumed too much fiber and yet his fluid intake is not increased in the right proportion.

Aside from these, other simple effects are tiredness, hunger and sometimes, bad temper. However, these symptoms should not continue for a long time; thus, if such condition worsens during the duration of the diet, it would be best to visit and seek the advice of a professional.

Since this diet may exclude animal products from the list of foods that a person may eat, then it is possible that you may not get all the nutrients that you will be needing.

You should remember that a detox diet should not be continued for a longer period because it may lead to nutrient deficiencies like protein and calcium.  It's always to get a good read on anything before jumping into it.  I love the books For "Dummies & Idiots".  They really provide tons of basic information; whereas, you can then begin to develop good questions for further research.
