Did You Eat Breakfast?

2 Common Questions at Black Phoenix Bootcamp:

Did You Eat Breakfast?

What Did You Eat for Breakfast?

I always ask you these questions because coming to class and working out is only a part of your fitness puzzle.   Some of you eat correctly, some of you eat incorrectly; in spite of my efforts to help keep you all on the right track.
To those of you who wake up, don't eat ... and jump into your track shoes:
You have to eat! Period!
It has often been said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That is even truer if you are trying to lose weight.  Studies have repeatedly shown that by starting the day with a meal, you will eat less throughout the day.  You need to fuel your body so that it can function under the high pressure on a Black Phoenix Bootcamp class.  AND you need to give your body the "tools" it needs to repair itself afterwards.

Think: "Prepare & Repair"

One of the reasons people skip breakfast is that they feel like they don't have enough time, but you really need to stop using that as an excuse.  You can always prepare some of the things the night before so they are ready to go in the morning.

Convenience foods may seem like a good choice, but be sure to the check labels of so-called "healthy" breakfast foods before you buy them. They may be loaded with sodium and sugar, and may not have much in the way of fiber or vitamins and minerals.

Fruit is an excellent part of any weight loss breakfast. It's low in calories, sweet and refreshing. You can use either fresh or frozen fruit. Try to get a variety of different fruits over the course of a week, as each fruit contains different micronutrients that you won't be able to get anywhere else.

Whole grains are another important part of a healthy breakfast. A bowl of oatmeal, a slice of whole grain toast, a bowl of high-fiber cereal will help to fill you up and eat less the rest of the day. You will also get a healthy dose of fiber which helps keep your weight in check in other ways.

You can certianly start your day with a Fruity Whole Food Meal Shake
or even a Protein Bar to rev your engine and get you going.

But these are just a few of the tasty choices you can add to the first meal of the day, but there is something you shouldn't add ... JUNK!

Be sure that you don't add grease and fats and other artery clogging JUNK to your healthy breakfast.  Smearing your whole wheat bagel in butter isn't going to help you lose weight, but it will help you raise your cholesterol.

It really comes down to common sense.
You know what you should be eating and you know what you shouldn't be eating.  It ends up (as always) becoming a matter of choice.

For the items you simply aren't sure of ... don't eat them until you are. It’s as simple as that.

Having a healthy weight loss breakfast will help you to eat less through the day. It will also put you in the right frame of mind for the rest of the day, which will accelerate your fat loss.
